Information Submitted Directly
A name, phone number, or address entered in a search form is sent to the outside provider that operates that result service. Valley Stream Residents Directory does not retain a copy of those searches on its own servers. A message sent through the listed contact channel contains only the information the sender includes, and it is used to respond to that message.
Technical Data Collected Automatically
Routine hosting logs may record an IP address, browser type, page request, and time of visit. These records help maintain security, diagnose errors, and understand aggregate use. Basic cookies or similar tools may support analytics and, where used, advertising measurement. They are not used to create a visitor directory or profile an individual visitor.
How Limited Data Is Used
Limited technical information supports operation, security review, traffic measurement, and improvements to the reference material. Contact details are used to answer the inquiry that supplied them. Visitor lists are not sold, and the service does not compile individual visitor profiles from its logs.
External Services and Links
Links may lead to Nassau County, New York State, library, archive, court, or third-party search services. Each destination has its own privacy terms and data practices. This is particularly important for sponsored results: information entered with a third-party provider is governed by that provider, not by this policy.
Service Providers and Disclosure
Hosting and support providers may process ordinary technical logs to operate the service. Analytics or advertising partners can receive the automatic data described above. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires it. Otherwise, the limited information held here is not shared as a visitor list.
Safeguards for Limited Data
The service uses an encrypted connection and retains logs only for operational, security, and legal needs. Because there are no site accounts, there is no visitor password or account profile to manage here. New York's SHIELD Act, General Business Law §§899-aa and 899-bb, sets data-security and breach-notice duties for covered private information; it does not create a general public-record deletion system.
Visitors Under Eighteen
The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor sent information through the contact channel, they may request review and deletion through Contact Us.
Requests and New York Privacy Rules
New York's Personal Privacy Protection Law, Public Officers Law article 6-A, §§91-99, governs certain state-agency personal-information practices and access or correction rights. It is not a universal right to delete information from a private reference service. A request about information held by this service can be sent through Contact Us; the contact mailbox and applicable logs will be reviewed for the requested material.
Government-held records belong to their custodians. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law article 6, §§84-90, controls access to agency records and permits privacy protections, including §§87(2)(b), 89(2)(b), and 89(7). The Address Confidentiality Program, Executive Law §108 and 19 NYCRR Part 134, protects eligible participants through a substitute address. Motor-vehicle personal information is also limited by the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, 18 U.S.C. §§2721-2725.
The Governor's January 2026 data-broker registration and centralized deletion proposal was a proposal, not an established statewide deletion system. A commercial listing should be addressed through the controller's own posted privacy channel. Sensitive identification documents should only be sent through a clearly identified, secure official process.
Changes to This Policy
Updates will be posted here with the revised policy text. Continuing to use the service after an update means the revised terms apply to that use.
